How many tables do you need for your guests?

Divide the guest count by the seats per table and round up. Add any spare tables separately. Tables needed = ceil(guests ÷ seats per table) + spare tables. This calculates seating capacity, not whether the tables fit your room.

123 guests ÷ 8 seats rounds up to 16 tables. That gives 128 seats, leaving five spare seats.

Why round up?

A partly filled table still counts as a table. Fifteen tables with eight seats hold only 120 guests.
